Steam Coil Air Preheater (SCAPH)
Finned steam coils that preheat combustion air — recovering boiler steam energy and protecting downstream air heaters in fouling-prone flue gas.
Why SCAPH for modern boilers
Traditional regenerative or tubular air preheaters can suffer when flue gas is sticky, acidic or ash-laden — common in spent-wash / slop-fired and biomass boilers. A steam coil air preheater uses clean steam on the tube side and combustion air on the fin side, delivering a controlled temperature lift before the main APH.
GrandeH fabricates next-generation G-type finned tube SCAPH coils engineered for industrial steam service, with attention to thermal performance, drainability and IBR-aligned pressure-part practice.
Typical applications
- Spent-wash / slop-fired boiler combustion-air heating
- Biomass and high-moisture fuel boilers
- Cold-climate start-up air heating for package and field-erected boilers
- Corrosion protection of downstream tubular / regenerative APHs
Design focus
- G-type / spiral finned tubes for high air-side area
- Steam header & coil layouts sized to duty and available steam pressure
- Drainable circuits to avoid water hammer and condensate hold-up
- Materials selected for steam temperature and plant atmosphere

FAQ
When should a plant use SCAPH instead of only a tubular APH?
When flue gas is sticky, acidic or ash-laden — common in spent-wash and some biomass boilers — a steam coil can lift air temperature cleanly before the main APH and reduce cold-end corrosion risk.
Can SCAPH be supplied with a new boiler or as a retrofit?
Both. Share steam pressure, air flow, required temperature lift and duct layout for sizing.
