Energy savings and sustainability
Heat the plant already has — flash steam, exhaust gas, hot water — used again, so the boiler fires less fuel.
The equipment under this heading does not make fuel cleaner by itself. It uses heat that is already in the plant, so the boiler or the furnace needs less fresh fuel for the same steam.
Spent steam into combustion air
A steam coil air preheater condenses steam inside finned tubes while air crosses the outside. At a tyre plant, the steam is spent flash steam. Preheated air enters the coal-fired boiler and coal consumption drops. That job is the tyre-plant case study.
On distillery and biomass boilers the same coil is specified because the flue gas fouls a conventional air heater. Steam heats the air without putting the sticky gas through the coil. See the distillery SCAPH dispatch.
Exhaust gas into steam
A waste heat recovery boiler raises steam from furnace, kiln, incinerator or turbine exhaust. Steel and DRI exhausts are a regular duty; sugar and power cogeneration is another. Pressure parts for a steel plant, including a steam blowing box at 17 kg/cm² for slag granulation, are in the steel dispatch.
Liquid duties
Heat exchangers, including plate-type units, cover process heating and cooling where the two fluids are liquids or a liquid and a condensing stream. They sit beside SCAPH and WHRB when the recovered stream is water or process fluid rather than air or flue gas.
Industries
- Tyre — flash steam to combustion air
- Distillery — SCAPH ahead of a fouling flue gas
- Sugar — bagasse boilers and recovered exhaust
- Steel — WHRB and low-pressure steam use
- Power — exhaust heat and steam-side equipment
