Equipment for steel plants

Waste-heat steam, slag-granulation steam and flue-gas isolation for steel and DRI duty.

Steel plants throw away heat in furnace and process exhaust, and they use steam in places such as slag granulation. Grandeh fabricates the pressure parts and duct equipment that put that heat and steam to work, at our Shendra MIDC works in Aurangabad.

Waste heat recovery

A waste heat recovery boiler takes hot flue gas from furnaces, DRI and similar metallurgical exhaust and turns it into plant steam. Grandeh supplies the pressure parts — tubes, headers and related fabrication — so the boiler can raise steam without a dedicated fuel fire for that stream. Gas-side materials are chosen for the temperature and the ash or corrosion the exhaust actually carries.

A recent steel-plant dispatch covered WHRB pressure parts and a steam blowing box. On that job, steam at 17 kg/cm² served the slag granulation system, using lower-pressure steam where the process can take it.

Duct isolation

Air dampers and dilution dampers sit on the gas path of a steel plant. When they stick or erode, the line stops. Grandeh has delivered air and dilution dampers to a large Indian steel plant, with Bureau Veritas inspection before dispatch, for a high-erosion duty that needed extra provision in manufacture. Guillotine and other isolation dampers are built to the duct size, the temperature and the sealing the shutdown requires.

What to send with an enquiry

  • Gas source, flow and inlet temperature for any waste-heat boiler
  • Steam pressure and where the steam is used
  • Duct size, orientation and whether the damper must isolate a fan or a furnace
  • Inspection scope, including third-party hold points
